A press-ready overview of the world, the art, and the story behind Edo Ball — created by Andrew Archer.
About Edo Ball
Edo Ball is a visual world where basketball meets Japanese art, mythology, and culture. Created by artist Andrew Archer, the project reimagines the game through handcrafted illustrations that merge storytelling, symbolism, and sport. Each piece reflects the discipline of the samurai, the elegance of ukiyo-e, and the enduring spirit of basketball.
What began as a single artwork in 2013 has grown into a living mythology of warriors, spirits, and courts — an evolving body of work that celebrates basketball, art and story.
The World of Edo Ball →
The Eternal Shogun — order, discipline, and command on the court. || Armored samurai leaps with a blood-spattered basketball under a full moon as arrows fly.
The Graveyard — ankle-breaker shrine where spirits claim the fallen. || Hooper dribbles through a bamboo court as skeletal ghosts lunge; bones and candles scatter.
The Gateway — sacred torii where hoop becomes a bridge between worlds. || Red torii with a hoop in falling snow; lone ball on an icy court, mountains in the distance.
Spirit of the Mamba — relentless obsession forged into killer instinct. || Giant serpent coils a samurai clutching a cracked red ball; golden energy trails swirl.
The Winter Shogun — northern ruler of defense, patience, and the pack. || Stoic northern warlord in winter motif, symbolizing disciplined, pack-led defense.
The Great Game — coastal court where tides turn and respect rules. || Seaside hardwood court beside rolling waves; play flows like the changing tide.
Journey at Dusk — clifftop court and swaying bridge under a rising moon. || Narrow mountain path and rope bridge lead to a gorge-top court at twilight.
The Tide Twins — sharpshooting siblings rising in perfect sync. || Twin shooters framed by ocean imagery, releasing jumpers in synchronized rhythm.
The World of Edo Ball
The World of Edo Ball expands the mythology beyond the canvas — transforming each artwork into part of a larger universe. It’s a living world of regions, warriors, and spirits, each shaped by basketball’s motion and philosophy. From the frozen Iron Pines to the volcanic Breaker Isles, every story, court, and symbol connects through the spirit of the game — where basketball becomes legend.
